Men of various other religious faiths have stated that “there is no preaching like the preaching of apostolic ministers”. There is good reason for this observation. At New Life Assembly, as in most apostolic churches, the most important part of the church service is typically the preaching. Truth has a certain sound and is not always comfortable - but is always beneficial. Apostolic preaching is supposed to challenge you and I to think in a “different way”. Preaching that doesn’t challenge our thinking essentially leaves us where we are. That doesn’t happen at New Life Assembly. Preaching at this church is expected to be dogmatic and polarizing in nature. What is right is right, and we want our ministers to have done their biblical, scientific, or historical research enough to be convinced of their positions on matters. We want declaration, not vacillation. We want to hear the voice of conviction rather than tentative suggestion, and as a rule that is in fact just what we hear. God says “my ways are not your ways and my thoughts are not your thoughts”. If it is really the word of God it is going to cross generally accepted human or worldly perspectives. Preaching that doesn’t cross at least some of the grain of our cherished suppositions isn’t worth much. However, that doesn’t mean that members automatically or blindly accept that the minister is right. It is for a true Christian to consider and examine the scriptures, as well as their own convictions, to find support for doctrine that is set forth as absolute truth. The ministers of New Life Assembly are very concerned for truth and biblical accuracy of doctrine, and encourage people who see error in the preaching to meet with them and challenge their teachings.God’s truth is a matter of growing revelation. The ministers of New Life Assembly are not married to their views. Our philosophy concerning preaching accuracy is that objections to preaching are not about “who” is right but rather “what” is right. The ministry naturally assumes that there is a certain amount of error in our understanding, or we could not grow in the knowledge of God. Our goal is to find and expose this error - both in our own thinking and preaching, as well as the common thinking of society. When the ministry sees that he is in error this is easily and comfortably admitted to the congregation and the corrected view is presented. We see challenges to our preaching as being very much a win, win situation. Either the ministry can show the challenger where his ideas are flawed, or the challenger can show the minister where his ideas are flawed. The result of this should be unity of opinion, as well as the views of both persons becoming more accurate. |
